Jennifer Wells' concise new book, "Gluten Free Kids: A Quick Start Guide for a Healthy Kids Diet" tells you how to go about accomplishing this.
The author starts by explaining what gluten is and how the auto immune system reacts to it in some people. In particular, any foods made with grains like wheat or rye have significant amounts of gluten as part of their structure. There are grains, however, like oats or corn that do not contain gluten naturally.

A must read if you want to know all about gluten sensitivity

This book really opened my eyes to the world of gluten sensitivity. It is estimated that as many as 30 to 50 percent of the world population may have this sensitivity, without being aware of it. The author,Jennifer Wells, not only gives a very clear definition of gluten, and the implications of gluten sensitivity, she also provides practical tips about what to do. Not an easy task, because gluten is all over the place!
If you suspect a child may be sensitive to gluten it might be best to consider switching to a gluten free diet for the entire family, so that the child doesn't feel singled out. In addition, it may be helpful for family members on a low carb diet, since gluten is very high in carbohydrates! I was amazed how high whole grain bread features on the so-called `glycemic index'! I would recommend this book to anybody who wants an indepth guide to all gluten related issues.

Important Eye Opener...

Fortunately I discovered this book. It is an eye opener. The importance of creating a gluten free diet for my daughter, because of her allergies, is at the very top of my list when I shop for groceries. However, it is no easy task. Because many products become contaminated with gluten during processing it makes finding gluten-free products very difficult. At least now, I have a much better idea of what to shop for and what to be careful of. Kudos to the author. Well done.
