Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a Prussian philosopher whose best-known works include the Critique of Pure Reason and the Metaphysics of Morals. His doctrines have had a wide-ranging influence since their first publication and have affected such diverse fields as metaphysics, ethics, epistemology, and political philosophy.

Kant is an important read. It is also fairly dense. This version is so full of typographic errors as to be nearly unreadable. I know that it's free, but this is ridiculous.

immanuel kant is very well versed and has an in depth knowledge of morality which he explains very well throughout the book. i reccommend it for anybody who is getting into philosophy or for someone who is a philosopher as a refresher. i thinks its more for the novice but a very enlightening read. included inside this is a three part explanation on morality.

Difficult but rewarding.

I haven't as yet begun to study "Fundamental Principles..." but I am currently reading, and listening to an audio book of Kant's - "Critique of Pure Reason".A warning.Do not attempt to read this book unless you have an extreme interest in Kant.It is extremely difficult to understand,but if you persevere you will eventually see the forest through the trees.There is something addictive and absorbing about this brilliant,but difficult to understand philosopher.In his own time one of Kant's colleagues told Kant that he feared for his sanity after reading one half of "Critique of Pure Reason".I thoroughly recommend this audio book to anyone interested in philosophy,but would also suggest that they find time to read the material as well.You will then begin to understand what a soaring brain this man had.

Liesbet Heyse's research focus is on the performance and operation of non-governmental humanitarian organizations.

Philosophische und theologische Perspektiven auf Sterben und Tod., 11 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die äußerste Herausforderung unseres Lebens ist, dass wir Menschen dem Schicksal des Todes und damit der Endlichkeit unseres irdischen Lebens ausgesetzt sind. Seit Gedenken der Menschheit haben Menschen immer wieder versucht, den Tod praktisch und theoretisch zu besiegen, z.B. durch ein „Elixier des Lebens“, dem „ewigen Jungbrunnen“ oder aber auch „durch die Persistenz ihrer Taten“, beispielsweise bei großen Herrschern und / oder Wissenschaftlern, die sich dadurch unauslöschlich in der Weltgeschichte zu verewigen suchten. Dem Menschen ist die „Sehnsucht nach ewigem Leben“ in die Wiege gelegt. Dennoch kann kein Mensch der Gewissheit entkommen, dass er einmal sterben muss. Letztlich bleibt der Tod als etwas in unserem Bewusstsein stehen, „dem wir vom Standpunkt unseres Lebenswillen aus gesehen keinen Sinn abgewinnen können, weil er unsrem Lebens-Sinn widerspricht.“

In dieser Arbeit soll beleuchtet werden, ob und in welcher Weise die Gewissheit des Sterbens Auswirkungen auf die konkrete Lebensgestaltung eines Menschen hat. Dieses soll sowohl aus der christlichen Perspektive als auch aus der nicht-christlichen Perspektive. Vorwiegend wird sich bei der nicht-christlichen Perspektive mit der Philosophie beschäftigt. Nur am Rande wird auf die anderen großen Weltreligionen eingegangen.

Part 3 of Midnight's Kiss

Midnight's Kiss the latest book in Donna Grant's Dark Warriors series is being sold as a serial! It has been broken down into four sections. Now you can wait until June 4 to purchase the book in its entirety or starting on May 14 readers will be given the option to purchase the first part of Arran and Ronnie's exciting book. Each week there after another part of the book will be released until readers have each of the four parts.

I was pleased that the momentum is still going strong with Part III. Arran and the Warriors and Druids of MacLeod Castle are finding out more and more about the new darkness that has turned their peace into a new nightmare. The new darkness has also set their sights on Ronnie. The things the new advisory has figured out how to do pose a serious threat to the Warriors.

Ronnie has more problems at the moment than she even wants to contend with. The aggravation, lack of sleep, and her constant distrust of everyone around her leads her to think that most of her problems showed up with the man she now knows to be a something quite other. Trust has never been easy, but her suspicions lead her to see how easily a certain situation could be manipulated and she could easily be played. She Ronnie needs to figure out who to trust and who to push away before she is in an even direr situation.

The different parts of Midnight's Kiss have been broken down to perfection. The pacing keeps the pages flying. The new threats to the world are well played. There are two new characters that I am dying to know more about. They may very well indeed be my favorite type of character. I am definitely looking forward to finding out more about them.

An evolution in the Dark Warrior Saga

If you have been waiting for the next instalment of the in the Dark Warrior series then this new concept of releasing the next book by instalments for e-readers is fantastic! You gain early access to the story, are able to read the first quarter of the story in a day or two just in time for the next component - well in advance of those waiting to by the hard copy. Truly loved this concept as it gave me my fix in just the right amounts!
The story picks up with Arran one of the dark warriors and pairs him with an archeologist who is yet to realise her true potential as a druid. Predictable thus far, however what really changed in this book was blending of multiple story lines and the integration of the Dragon Kings resulting in a more complex colourful tapestry of events which was anything but predictable. Donna Grant has taken the whole series to a new level, one that I had not foreseen. It certainly rekindled my interest in the overall plot and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
A pleasant surprise for those of us who have been following the series thus far. Fast pace, great characters and an interesting evolution in the story telling. Highly recommended!!!

:'( Ok, So as I write this, I am crying a lot.... cause Fallon was my favorite warrior and he was my guy, and to see him hurting like this breaks me a little... :( I can't believe that she actually... *sniffles* Larena's really.... gone... :( I keep hoping that somehow she comes back or.... or something... but, :( I am not sure that is going to happen, I am going to begin reading Part 4 right now.... but.... It is with a heavy heart that I say that THIS was the biggest wrench that I have ever read that was thrown into ANY of Donna Grant's Books.. :(

I give this book 5 out of 5 shields!

Charles H. Kraft is senior professor of anthropology and intercultural communication at the School of Intercultural Studies, Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the president of Kraft Ministries, an inner healing and deliverance ministry, and he also serves as vice president of Hearts Set Free Ministries. The author of more than thirty books, Kraft conducts seminars around the world on spiritual warfare, healing, and deliverance. He and his wife, Meg, live in South Pasadena, California.

I have attended several conferences and this is a must have book for anyone wanting to set the captives free. Check out the book that leads into this one. I Give You Authority by Charles Kraft....amazing and accurate. I have been set free from many deep seated strongholds and still free after 20 years later. It works for anyone willing to seek as they will find deliverance..

About the Author
One of the contemporary American theater's most innovative wordsmiths. Great. Full of vivid imagery, very creative.

This book contains plays written by Suzan-Lori Parks. I had to read this for a class, and we dived deep into the metaphors, language, and imagery. It is a very interesting read, full of dynamic. It really stretches your imagination.

Complex and Radical

This is one of those books that changed the way I thought. It has stuck with me as one of the most amazing books I've encountered. I started reading it because the title play was assigned in my "Modern Tragedy and Metatheater" class... but I ended up reading the whole thing cover to cover because I'd never encountered anything like it. Parks has such a gift with language--and she uses that gift to tackle important and complex subject matter in radical new ways.

I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in post-modernism, theater (meta-theater in particular), or oppression studies.

This is the second book of Delia Parr's that I've had the opportunity to review. I love her writing style. I must say that I enjoyed this book from the cover picture to the very end. Having goose feathers as a weapon, using brooms to celebrate July 4th and an annoying pet turkey are a few examples of Mrs. Parr's creativity in her newest book, Love's First Bloom.

The story begins as Ruth's father places a baby in her arms with explicit instructions that she must change her identity and board the ship headed to a small community in New Jersey. Ruth must make some big, life-changing decisions and learn how to discern whom to trust. The two innocent victims of scandal, Ruth and the baby Lily, find refuge in the home of a kind, loving couple living near Toms River.

Ruth obediently and tirelessly cares for the child left in her care. Discouraged and grieving, she begins to seek God as she tends an abandoned garden at the banks of the river. She meets Jake Spencer, a man she believes to be injured and in need of her help. Ruth begins to trust Jake and wonders if he can help her protect Lily from harm. How will Ruth react when she discovers that Jake is actually one of the newspapermen intent upon marring her good name?

This book points out the dangers of media telling all and destroying innocent lives in the process. It is an easy and enjoyable read.

Confusing and slow moving

I was very confused that Ruth was posing as both a reformed prostitute and as a widow? I am not sure if it was the storyline that confused me or simply the fact that it wasn't very interesting. I was a little over 60 percent finished before it became more interesting. I have liked other Delia Parr books, this one just did not hit the mark for me.

An enjoyable story

Ruth Livingstone's father (who's a Reverend) was accused of murder and wasn't sure if he would be acquitted. So he gives Ruth a new identity, thrusts a child in her arms and sends her away. He tells her she's the only one he trusts to care for the child and that she must maintain her new identity no matter what. Then she meets Jake Spencer. A handsome man who is recovering from an injury and wanting a quiet place to do it. (or so he leads Ruth to believe). In reality he is trying to win his brothers favor by finding and writing an article for their newspaper on Ruth Livingstone. As they get to know each other they find a great attraction between them. But what about all the lies they've told to each other? Will Jake betray the girl he's come to love for the sake of his career? And can Ruth forgive Jake for his deceit?

I really enjoyed Love's First Bloom. I must say the cover is what drew me to want to read the book, it's beautiful. The story was a "easy" paced story. The topic of taking former prostitutes and helping them begin a new life with a family who was willing to take them in was very interesting. You'll find as you're reading along many questions pop up, but the author answers them all and brings everything to a wonderful and satisfying conclusion. I would consider this a light romance with some very touching moments. One line in the book that I really liked a lot was "There are no real coincidences in life for those with faith strong enough to recognize coincidences for what they really are: intricate pieces of the providential design God created for each of our lives." Be sure to read the note at the end about the Seashell. A thank you goes to Bethany House for providing me with this complimentary copy for my review.

Fun story

This is a very colorful book about some Kitties that go to work. The story follows them on their busy day. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I thought the story was easy to read and the pictures were large and great for the younger crowd. I would recommend this book for the preschool age group.

A "stay at home" keeper book

I asked my son for suggestions for an Easter gift for my 3-year-old grandson. He immediately said, the book Construction Kitties. He said Henry checks it out every time they go to the library. I wasn't there when he opened it, but my son later said that as soon as Henry saw it, he said "a stay-at-home book". (Meaning he never has to return it to the library!) He was so excited to actually own one of his favorite books.

Alliterative Revivals is the first full-length study of the sophisticated historical consciousness of late medieval alliterative romance. Drawing from historicism, feminism, performance studies, and postcolonial theory, Christine Chism argues that these poems animate British history by reviving and acknowledging potentially threatening figures from the medieval past—pagan judges, primeval giants, Greek knights, Jewish forefathers, Egyptian sorcerers, and dead ancestors. In addressing the ways alliterative poems centralize history—the dangerous but profitable commerce of the present with the past—Chism's book shifts the emphasis from the philological questions that have preoccupied studies of alliterative romance and offers a new argument about the uses of alliterative poetry, how it appealed to its original producers and audiences, and why it deserves attention now.

Alliterative Revivals examines eight poems: St. Erkenwald, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Wars of Alexander, The Siege of Jerusalem, the alliterative Morte Arthure, De Tribus Regibus Mortuis, The Awntyrs off Arthure, and Somer Sunday. Chism both historicizes these texts and argues that they are themselves obsessed with history, dramatizing encounters between the ancient past and the medieval present as a way for fourteenth-century contemporaries to examine and rethink a range of ideologies.

These poems project contemporary conflicts into vivid, vast, and spectacular historical theaters in order to reimagine the complex relations between monarchy and nobility, ecclesiastical authority and lay piety, courtly and provincial culture, western Christendom and its easterly others, and the living and their dead progenitors. In this, alliterative romance joins hands with other late fourteenth-century literary texts that make trouble at the borders of aristocratic culture.

Terry K. Woods is past president of both the Canal Society of Ohio and the American Canal Society. He is former editor of Towpaths, the journal of the Canal Society of Ohio, and is widely recognized as an expert on the Ohio & Erie Canal. He is also the author of Ohio's Grand Canal: A Brief History of the Ohio & Erie Canal (Kent State University Press, 2008).

A Lock by Lock Account

Excellent detailed book about every significant lock, aqueduct, culvert, etc. of all Ohio Canals. Being raised and living in Ohio there was stuff right under my nose I wasn't aware of. I have always been fascinated by the canals, the first economic highways until trains and automobiles came along.

With this book I was able to go to Google Earth and see and map everything I could in the book by latitude and longitude and compose this on a list so that all you have to do is to put the GPS data in the search bar on Google Earth and there it is on the satellite image. Pretty neat.

Unfortunately if the satellite picture is taken in summer, the foliage blocks some of the views. Have just traced the whole Ohio & Erie canal from Cleveland to Portsmouth lock by lock base on this book.
