Anthony Elliott is Chair and Head of the Department of Sociology, Flinders University, Australia. He is also Visiting Research Professor in the Department of Sociology, Open University, UK and Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology, University College Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. He is the author and editor of over twenty books, and his writings have been published in eighteen languages.

Rebellion against limits

Very interesting book about the search for improvement in nature, body, relations, mind. We are not satisfied with what we receive from nature and society. So we try to overcome barriers, limitations, because limits are just challenges, not impossibilities. These, in the long run, disappear behind our rebellious nature. Without grand theories, the author collects several examples of our intent to be gods. We don't "invent", we just reinvent, behaving in the same manner as evolution: from nothing comes nothing; we make "new" things from other things.
