Dear Dr. Bjorklund, I don't know if you are in Blessing or on your way to Africa, but I am writing this in the hope that you are indeed in North Dakota. I also hope you are not going to Africa, but that is my selfish prayer. Remember our discussion when I said that perhaps my people could be your Africa? Right now the people of Red Bud Reservation are dying from the measles. If I go home at this time, I will lose my place in the hospital rotation, and as Dr. Morganstein is afraid, I might never make it back here. The needs are so great on the reservation. I know your people in Blessing sent food and supplies earlier this spring, but now a doctor is needed, one who can teach my people how to fight off this dread epidemic. The lack of food and cleanliness is part of the problem, as is the disease itself. Please, can you go? And I beg your people to be generous again to those who are so proud and so needy. entertaining early twentieth century tale

In 1904 Dr. Astrid Bjorklund decides to practice her calling in Africa as the third generation in her family to do God's work. However, she prays her beloved Joshua Landsverk understands her desire. Instead they have an argument and she leaves for the east to attend missionary training.
In Blessing, North Dakota a deadly measles epidemic threatens those residing on the Red Bud Indian Reservation. Her friend Dr. Hawk asks for her medical assistance. Rushing back to help, Astrid wonders if her missionary calling is closer to home as she follows God's message.
The second Home to Blessing historical novel (see Measure of Mercy) is an entertaining early twentieth century tale that focuses on the personal life of a female missionary. Astrid believes she has been called by the Lord to serve, but where as the need in the Dakotas is great but Africa has been her destination goal. Although at times the pace is a bit slow due to the deep concentration on practicing medicine in 1904 in substandard environs, the strong cast makes for a profound historical.

No Distance Too Far (Home to Blessing)
Another book by Lauraine Snelling! She is my MOST FAVORITE author, and this book is worth waiting for! All of these books begin in several series (Red River Of The North - 6 bks, Return To Red River - 4 bks, Daughters Of Blessing - 4 bks, and Home To Blessing - 2 bks). I highly recommend that you read the whole previous 3 series and the first Home To Blessing book before you read this one. "No Distance Too Far" (#2 in the Home To Blessing series). This book begins right in one of the hearts of the Bjjorklund family, with Astrid. She begins her journey in Georgia, in missionary school. Her family and friends are very shocked with her decision to leave them, and go onto the mission field in Africa for 2 years. A member of the family from Norway has come to help Ingeborg with the home and little Emily. A little voice is found at a very emotional time for Ingeborg. Their daily life is a Christian life (as we have seen throughout all of the series that Snelling has written regarding Blessing, North Dakota). Joshua meets a new member of the community that has returned. His job (drilling wells) takes him off, with two of the other teens in town. A pregnancy occurs, and you will not want to miss what happens with that! As Astrid's decision making becomes harder and more critical for her... he Lord opens her eyes as she goes back to the roots. This is an emotional story, and very intriguing to me. Imagine being sent off over the ocean, in 1904? Astrid is VERY committed to her faith, and eventually hears God and makes the critical decision. I thought it was a wonderful book. It brings us HOME to Blessing, and I can't wait for the next book!! As usual, I found this book very hard to put down, and gobbled it up in two sittings! Thanks Lauraine! Keep writing the words of wonder, faith, and love exactly as you write them in your picture painting words, and taking us with you as you write the Blessing families lives!

Another easy, enjoyable read

Another easy, enjoyable read. I just love this series. I even got a little teary in my car the middle of a parking lot, waiting for my boys to buy some milk. I am completely happy with both things that happened at the end of this book, but I guess that's all I can say about it without spoiling it.
