Great notes....

I was in a book club with some friends and we all reread 1984. It was fascinating to talk about what Orwell wrote and the changes we have seen in society.
We picked up the book to read the analysis. Sadly, although the chapter reviews were decent, I didn't feel the analysis was nearly as in detail as I had hoped it would be. Still, we all read it after each chapter.

1984 is a really hard book to read and with Max Notes I can easily understand it. It makes a difficult story easy to read.

Good for a discussion group event

I read "1984" back in the day, before the year had come and gone. Recently a discussion group I wanted to attend was doing the book. I took one look at the full book, and decided that I needed some help! I got these notes and went through them. After attending the group, and listening to other commenters, who probably read the book about the same time I did, I felt like this reference had been a good move. This review hits on the story line, brings up the vocabulary words and reminds you of the major themes. If you can do that in an adult discussion group it's a good thing, as people who hardly skimmed a book will often digress shamefully.
There are plenty of modern-day examples to bring up with this book, if you think about the ideas brought up here you'll be able to spout off original thoughts and won't sound like you read the Max Notes. I think there is probably a dissertation in there for someone who'd like to pick apart Orwell's attitude towards women -- which in my modern-day thought pattern, is not very enlightened.
