The Value of Analytics

I can honestly say that Randy Bartlett's book is one of my favorite business oriented books of all time. Most of the analytic books on the market go out and interview top company executives and tell you how great the results are from using statistics to make strategic decisions. Randy's treatise does them one better by accomplishing two things.
1) Explaining the rational behind why it is important to have statistics as the driver in the business, and
2) Describing how to implement a robust "Center of Excellence" modeling group, which can tackle problems throughout the company.
It is truly a remarkable paradigm in forward thinking. He has really shown business leaders how to unlock the potential in their companies and make the journey from good to best in class. As our world becomes more global in nature, competition will only intensify at a geometric rate. If you are not utilizing the ideas in this book, you will be watching the competition from behind the curve, as your company follows the Darwinian march into extinction

Refreshing- A reality based business book to help exploit Big Data via Analytics

Creating competitive business advantage with technology and developing technological strategies for multi-billion dollar corporations are what I do for a living. The recent surge in Big Data has driven a greater demand by corporations to build advantage-creating analytic capabilities. To harvest the desired benefits, the technologies built and deployed must fit within the context of the business AND the business must understand how to embrace analytics. What's the use of all these tools if those using them don't understand their capabilities? To this end, I want to share that "A Practitioner's Guide to Business Analytics" is the very best source of information on how businesses, from a business perspective, must think about and leverage business analytics. Part I of the book, Introduction and Strategic Landscape, is fantastic and should be required reading for any organization that wants to compete in the modern business landscape. Parts II and III provide playbooks for executing and supporting analytics respectively. The conversational style of the text makes ingesting the key concepts and salient subtitles of leveraging business analytics simple and enjoyable. No small feat for such a topic! The real world case studies shared in the book are also of note. As one who operates in the world of real organizations, and as a first-hand witness of how organizations operate with these powerful tools, I especially appreciate the author's "boots on the ground" experience. This isn't some tome of theory, it is what really works. Read this book, then rethink your approach to analytics.

Excellent Book

This book was a pleasure to read! It is well written and rich in content. They should have put the footnotes on the same page. Some of them are hilarious so you should bookmark them and flip back when you come to them.
