Author Ganas, a professor at California's Azusa Pacific University, is a former actor, director, and producer, so she has the unique perspective of an insider who is also spiritually grounded. About the Author
Monica Ganas (PhD, University of Kentucky), a native Californian, is professor of theater, film, television, and communication studies at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. She created the Azusa Renaissance Project, which brings theater to local children and local children to the theater. Ganas is also a twenty-five-year veteran of the entertainment industry as an actor, writer, director, and producer.

Monica is the ultimate seamstress

Monica is the ultimate seamstress, sewing and weaving together so many facets of life that we sleepwalk through each day, unknowingly allowing them to influence the way we live. I am continually floored by her ability to see the connections among things everywhere from how we eat to how we worship. I spent every class of her's in college frantically trying to write down every genius insight she made - now I have a book full of them! Thanks for writing this. As I now call myself a Californian, I treasure this handbook to surviving the lure of the Cal-type. I'll faithfully refer to it each time I begin to get a little "sleepy".
If you live in the United States (and, increasingly, anywhere in the Western World), this book is relevant and important to you and how you live your life. She exposes the nuances of the current state of our social rituals and practices as they are today - dripping with influence from the Golden State - with a keen, sensitive, humble eye.

Simply Brilliant

Having grown up in California, I was looking forward to reading this book. The author brilliantly reaches inside of the reader and uses our own experiences and humanity to create a depth of understanding. One needn't have grown up in California to learn from this amazing teacher, especially from her knowledge of history and mythology. The analysis of the culture of California through a spiritual and intellectual perspective provides the reader with a much needed general understanding of the current state of affairs occurring in all aspects of our society, whether it be personally, media-related, or politically.
