Yet Isabella is drawn to Draven's dark good looks, his strength, the charm he can turn on as easily as she can blink. The impoverished daughter of an Egyptologist, she knows there are rumors about her, too, and the amulet she wears. Nothing more than superstitious babble...
But when Isabella returns to Draven's remote coastal manor, she senses there is something more at work in the grim gardens of Thorncliff Towers than superstition. Draven is passionate and seductive, but he has a brutal, uncontrolled side too, and a history of secrets. To live in peace she must discover the reasons behind a gypsy curse and a mother's scorn. Especially when she learns Draven believes his sweet young bride is doomed to a fate even darker than his own...

Wild and Zany Beauty and the Beast Retelling
By Sophia Rose
Another Beauty and the Beast retelling? Gah, love it every time I find one. This had me more than interested though because it was set in historic times and had even more magical twists than the original fairy tale. Egyptian and Gypsy curses, anyone? With the knowledge of these additional things in place, I was prepared for things to get a little crazy in the storytelling. It did- get crazy that is- and then some.
The story jumps right in with Lord Draven Winthrop on the eve of his wedding discovering that he now bares a curse of turning into a werewolf after being bitten that night. He's already known as a rake and a madman and he is determined not to feel anything for his bride, Isabella Farrington. In fact, the night of their wedding his is rude and pushes her away and then his aggressiveness pushes her right out of the house and off to London for two years to live separate lives.
Isabella had hope that Draven would be different and in spite of the rumored curse attached to her necklace about her killing her true love he had married her. Then he coldly and roughly treated her before revealing that he had no intentions of fathering a child and starting a family. For several months after she left him, Draven wrote to her regularly to return, but she ignored him. After two years in which she and her father are destitute, she has to go back to her husband and trick him into supporting her and her father.
Isabella's return gives them both a chance to rain own recriminations on each other. Draven has his secrets and Isabella has her schemes. Someone else is plotting from the shadows. Isabella's amulet is stolen and Draven's mother is poisoned to near death. In the meantime, Draven's wolf curse grows stronger and the gypsies he consults give him no hope to break his curse and Isabella's curse kicks in when she starts to have real feelings for Draven even beyond the scorching hot and wild attraction they've always had for each other. She finally has to believe in the supernatural when she starts uncovering Draven's secrets, but also starts to see that things aren't exactly hopeful.
Yeah, see? Doesn't it all sound bizarre and over the top? It was. Once in a while, I actually seek out such stories because I love to suspend belief and just run with a zany storyline to see where it goes. I am totally okay with it up to a certain point. The reason I didn't completely cotton to this one was the back and forth feel to the characters and their romance. Isabella confused the heck out of me. First, she'd freak out about Draven's behavior and then she'd accept it because she knew where it was coming from. Then she'd go off in a freak again. Yes, I get that the guy was keeping secrets, but really, did she expect him to dish it all and put himself out there after she'd run off the first night and hadn't been back even a week? And what was he to think when she starts rifling through his things and had her own plots going on. I'm not big on people toying with others even if they don't do it on purpose. Other than the back and forth business with the relationship, I was having a good time with the laid on thick atmosphere and curse stuff. The attempted murder mystery added even more fun to the whole thing.
In the end, it was an entertaining read that I would recommend to those who on occasion enjoy a busy plot, outrageous characters and worldbuilding and a steamy fairy tale retelling under all the other layers.

Atmospheric gothic romance....with an annoying heroine.
By C. Halford
Originally published at The Rookie Romance Blog.
I love Beauty and the Beast re-tellings, it's my favourite fairy tale, so I jumped at the chance to review Beauty and the Wolf. Whilst there were aspects of the book I did enjoy, there were also bits that for me, fell a little flat.
I thought the plot was well thought out, and I really enjoyed combining the werewolf aspect with a gypsy curse. Then you throw in an ancient Egyptian curse and it's all very intriguing. There's plenty of mystery and twists in the plot to keep your interest.
I also really liked Draven, he's clearly a very tortured soul. He has spent his whole life grappling with guilt because of an awful accident when he was younger. He does his best to deal with his werewolf curse, he stays away from people and always tries to ensure that he doesn't harm anyone. Whilst he did marry Isabella for the curse she supposedly has, he cares for her very deeply and would do anything to make sure she's not hurt.
Now Isabella, is a different story. I just could not like her, and I tried. When I'm reading a book I make notes on my phone for when I write my review. 90% of the notes I wrote were about how much Isabella was annoying me. She was just so inconsistent, one moment she would be professing to care for him and the next she would think he was some kind of mad monster. Also, considering that she ran away from her husband on their wedding night, when she returns to Thorncliff Towers she's pretty rude and demanding. Every time she would start to redeem herself, she would do something stupid or cowardly.
I've made her sound pretty awful, and I guess a lot of the time she was scared and/or desperate. She does redeem herself by the end of the story, but I wish she's come to her senses sooner.
I did enjoy the style of the author's writing a lot, it reminded me of an old fashioned gothic romance- in the best sense! So even though, I didn't click with Isabella, I really enjoyed the story and the other characters. I'm looking forward to reading the next book from Marina Myles.

A grown-up Beauty and the Beast!
By arbjames
In this gothic retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast, Isabella Farrington finds herself hastily wed to Lord Drayven Winthrop. Both of them are flawed and see their match as a last resort. Lord Winthrop has terrible, dangerous secrets, and when things go horribly wrong on their wedding night, Isabella is driven away for two years. However, she can't stay away, driven both by very practical reasons (such as the need for money to support herself and her father) and the feeling that Lord Winthrop desperately needs saving. Can Drayven confide in her without losing her? Can she save him without losing herself?
I read this novel in one sitting. This was partially because it was a "light" read, but it was also because of the tension, much of it sexual, that Myles built throughout the book between Drayven and Isabella. (Once you read it, you'll understand what I mean. Seriously, one more interruption and I probably would have screamed!) Do they trust one another or don't they? At times I found the language rather florid, especially the love scenes, but since I would classify this as a "romance novel," I rather expected that. Myles somehow managed to work in gypsy curses, werewolves, ancient Egyptian curses, governesses marrying nobles, evil twins, evil stepmothers, ship building, and beach conservation all in one novel!
