A Refreshing Drag

Nick Orsini certainly has a talent for storytelling; that much is undeniable. His use of words to tell his narrator's thoughts was crisp and fluid. The stories he tells speak to the high schooler, the friend, the son in all of us; they are familiar yet original.
However, beyond a couple of glaring grammatical errors (I felt at times that I was reading a rough draft), I had a slight problem with the lack of dialogue, but that is merely due to my personal preference for character interaction. Orsini writes long passages that flit between memory and the story at hand. In this, Orsini uses the stream-of-consciousness style to great effect.
The reader is aware of how the story will end within the first few pages (if not the first page itself), and so when the novel ended, I felt mildly unsatisfied, though with some time to consider it, it grew on me.
All in all, a respectable effort.

Easy read but lacks direction

Fingerless Gloves seemed like a stream of consciousness novel that was not thoroughly edited. While the repeated words and lack of proper capitalization was not too distracting, it made it feel like it was rushed to be available to the public. I chose to read this book since I am doing a presentation about substance abuse. The main character, Anton, is a heavy user of marijuana and as you follow the story, you get a glimpse into his relationships with Beth, his ex-girlfriend, and James, his best friend who is in the hospital the night of the story.
Although the book does touch on the subject of substance abuse, there are better books, like The Spectacular Now, that would be more appropriate for students to read.

Couldn't put it down

I read this book over the course of two days. I simply could not get enough. Throughout the entirety of this exciting novel, the main character, Anton, heads onto memorable adventure after memorable adventure. You simply cannot believe what happens to Anton in one simple night!
Fingerless Gloves speaks to the 20-something in all of us. Replaying events from our past, living in the present, justifying bad choices, and simply second guessing our every move. If you are interested in reading a unique and exciting novel, check this out!! I was pleasantly surprised.
Two thumbs up, Nick Orsini, I loved your first novel, and was equally impressed by your second. Now write the next one please! :)
